National Ski Patrol

Project Details

DMA Engineering teamed up with the National Ski Patrol recently to synchronize their headquarters’ energy practices with their pioneering vibes, both on and off the snowy slopes.

The collaboration involved a Level II Energy Audit for the organization’s national headquarters, accommodating the National Ski Patrol System, Professional Ski Instructors of America, and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.

The office building, spanning three stories and 18,000-25,000 square feet, was cooled and ventilated by rooftop units and heated via a boiler. The primary goal of the audit was to pinpoint the most cost-effective and energy-efficient strategies for upgrading HVAC, building envelope, and lighting systems.
DMA’s services included:

  • A detailed Trade Off Analysis based on the energy audit results and modeling specifically tailored for the National Ski Patrol system.
  • A comparison of the existing HVAC system with both ground source and air source heat pump systems, exploring variations like VRF/VAV/RTU/Air to Water.
  • Evaluation of two to three pertinent building envelope enhancements, such as window upgrades, air sealing options, and increased insulation for roofs and exteriors.
  • Delivery of a written report which encompassed results from the Trade Off Analysis, a building load schedule based on energy modeling, formal recommendations for the next steps backed by analysis, budgetary insights, and an addendum outlining the subsequent phases of the project.

This collaboration between DMA Engineering and the National Ski Patrol was like carving fresh powder on the same slope—both parties were pumped about energy efficiency, making sure the organization’s headquarters were in sync with their values of sustainability and responsible resource usage, both inside the office and out there, promoting top-notch outdoor safety.
